I predict that a year from now there’ll be a lot of disused WiiFit benches languishing at the back of cupboards after the initial enthusiasm has worn off, providing hi-tech companions to the ab rollers and sets of weights. I suspect that to achieve the kind of lasting behavioural change all our doctors would like us to make, we actually don’t need technology that makes the business of working out more game-like. After all, no matter how you dress it up, many people just don’t like getting hot, sweaty and out of breath. Instead of using game hardware to work out, we should be using game-based motivational techniques.
